Cysts on the scalp (Pillar or  trichilemmal cyst)  are the easiest of all cysts to remove. They rarely rupture.  No hair is shaved for removal.

Sebaceous cysts (epidermal cysts)
These skin cysts are small lumps or bumps just under the skin. They are closed sacs (like  balloons)that contain keratin which are like tooth-paste or white soft cheesy can be squeezed out through a tiny open on the skin surface (punctum). These  soft white cheese have a foul unforgettable nauseating odour.

They are usually found on the face, neck, trunk and scrotum.

Most doctors don’t like cyst removal surgery. They can be tricky to remove and time consuming.

What Causes Skin Cysts?
Sebaceous cysts are the result of bits of trap skin growing beneath the normal skin surface, from any reason- trauma, pimple or simple born with it. We tend to see these cysts in patients who have had resolved acne.

It’s important not try and do cyst removal by squeezing out the cheese inside the cyst as you may rupture the sac and a painful smelly abscess will follow.

How Are Sebaceous Cysts Diagnosed ?
Sebaceous cysts, to the trained eye, are usually easily diagnosed by their appearance. Sometimes your doctor may order an ultrasound scan to aid diagnosis. DO NOT DO NEEDLE BIOPSY ON SKIN CYST – you will be sorry ( the content will spill out and sure enough infection will follow )
